Author's Notes: This is a bit of silliness that came on me while I was listening to some of my CD's. That's what I get for pressing "shuffle"! The song "Shadowboxer" is by Fiona Apple, and can be found on her CD Tidal, and the version of "Stayin' Alive" I refer to can be found on the soundtrack of the Jackie Chan flick Supercop and I believe was performed by Siouxie and the Banshees.

Willow Rosenberg smoothed her red hair off of her face, and looked around the Bronze. The all-ages club was dead tonight. Three people sat at the bar, two were playing pool, and Willow sat by herself at the Slayerettes' usual table [Where the heck is Buffy?] she thought. [She was supposed to be here hours ago.] Willow was lonely, but her homework was done, and she really didn't feel like surfing the 'net, so she sat and enjoyed the atmosphere in the club. It was better than nothing.

The owners weren't oblivious to the seeming quiet of the city; they had turned on some slower music, and as the music blared from the speakers behind her table, Willow subconsciously swayed to the rythym of it. The song kind of reminded her of Xander...

You make me a shadowboxer, baby,
I wanna be ready for what you do
But I've been swingin' all around me
And I don't know when you're gonna make your move...

[Xander.] Willow sighed heavily. [Why am I wasting my time? He won't make a move. He never will. And Oz is so darn cute....] She sighed again and closed her eyes. [I love this song, anyways...] Willow swayed to the music, and sang along softly.

Oh it's evil, babe,
The way you let your grace
Enrapture me
When well you know I'd be insane
To ever let that dirty game
Recapture me....

The doors to the club swung shut behind a tall, older man. His polished spectacles shone as light from the empty dance floor bounced off the lenses. Pulling off his long duster, he headed for the bar and ordered a large cup of orange Blossom tea. Turning around, he scanned the room for familiar faces. Finding one, he started toward her, but paused as the bartender handed him his drink.

"One fifty." the bartender said. Giles handed him three.

"Keep it. Looks like a slow night." The bartender nodded and thanked him, then wandered away to watch the pool match on the other side of the bar.

Giles watched Willow sway with the slow music. The light danced off of her hair, turning a lovely shade of copper, and the rapturous expression on her face made Giles smile tenderly. This girl was special. She was intelligent, and attractive and, he thought, would most likely be the next Watcher. He wondered with a chuckle how Buffy would react to training with Willow. [It will have to start soon,] he reflected,[or I may not have enough time with Willow...]

Normally, the music in this club turned his stomach and made his brains feel like they were dribbling from his nose. Tonight, however the slow music fit his mood, and the singer's voice was lovely, and watching Willow sing along was starting to tug at his heartstrings. She seemed to be wrapping herself up inside the music, feeling what the singer felt, knowing the pain of the situation in the song. Giles waited for the music to wind down before he joined her.

"Hello, Willow," he said as he sat down on the stool next to her own.

Willow looked at him and blinked. The tweed-and-tie uniform was gone, and here instead was a different Giles, one who wore blue jeans and a collarless shirt, and ---was that an earring? She blinked again and shook her head, as if to clear it out of cobwebs.

"Giles?!" she squeaked. "Who are you and what have you done with my Librarian? You look normal!"

Giles grinned at her. "Is that a compliment?"

"No! Um, yes! Well....do you want it to be?"

He chuckled at her. "It's all right, Willow. I'm actually here looking for Buffy. Have you seen her?"

Willow's face fell. [Always with Buffy. Is there something wrong with me? Am I not worthy?]She shook her head. "Nope. I was supposed to meet her here a few hours ago. She never showed." Wiloow decided to change the subject. "So, what's with the outfit?"

"Calendar asked me if I owned anything that wasn't tweed, so I unearthed this stuff, and was going to surprise her. I was supposed to meet her for coffee, but she had papers to grade, and had to cancel." He frowned. [She couldn't have graded those before, or after coffee?] "Buffy's supposed to be out on patrol tonight, so I thought I'd catch up with her here and tag along. She is, obviously, not here. So -- "

"Bored and lonely?" Willow interrupted.

Giles smiled at her sheepishly. [Dressed like a normal guy, he's almost cute...too bad he's old...] Willow thought. SHe shook off the thought when she realized he was speaking to her again.

"Yes, actually. Very bored."

Willow looked at the tabletop and smiled. "So'm I."

The music changed to an upbeat song with a pounding bass backbeat. A low, breathy female voice began to sing:

You can tell by the way I use my walk
I'm a woman's man, no time for talk
Using love, I've been around
I been kicked around since I was born

Giles looked up, startled. "I know this song. Someone actually covered this song? Yes, let's us dredge up some old polyester and dance like John Travolta." He smirked at Willow dangerously. "Wanna dance?"

Willow blanched, even as she blushed at his invitation. "Let's go somewhere else. We can get that coffee!"

Giles raised an eyebrow at Willow. "You don't Disco?"

Willow grabbed his arm and led him out of the club as quickly as possible, blushing furiously.
