Baby I bought wine and roses
on my way home

Giles hurried from the store, he was late...

Again.

He hoped she would forgive him...

Again.

Money was tight...

Still.

Yea, I know we can’t afford it,
but life doesn’t last too long

Something he readily identified with he thought as he listened to the song on the radio. He had to admit, he had actually began to like... No, he wasn’t going to say the word... Ripper would fight like crazy, rather than listen to this, he told himself. The music was his wife’s influence, although he’d never tell her that he listened to the station even when she wasn’t around.

This world’s has gone half crazy

And knocked us both to our knees

They had been knocked down by things other people would have fainted at the sight of.

I’m fumbling for the words
to try and tell ya, I love you
for hanging on to me

He had stumbled, for quite sometime, to tell her how he felt. He could remember her face, framed by a half smile. She had already known... taking him by the hand and leading him to sanctuary of her waiting arms.

When anyone else would’ve
been long gone

Packed it up and headed
back home

And not a soul would
have blamed you

After what I put you through

He had put her through so much, before they were married. He tried to keep it from her, she wouldn’t hear of it.

“We’re in this together Rupert,” she whispered, before kissing him.

Yea, anyone else would’ve gone insane

Called the game on account of rain...

Anyone else, anyone else…

Anyone but you

He still didn’t know what he had done to have her in his life...

She was with him when he needed her most...

Mayday baby, all rivets
popped loose, it’s a total tailspin

There were days when he felt he would lose himself in what was happening...

Too much grindstone,

Too little time with you.

Girl, you know it’s wearing thin

He really didn’t know how much more she’d take before coming to her senses and leaving him. How he hated himself whenever they argued. Especially when she found out that he’d been hiding things from her. Things he thought she shouldn’t know.

Baby let’s trade in these teardrops

“For better or worse Rupert, that’s what we vowed. Not when it’s convenient for you,” she had said, before slamming the door and leaving him alone in their living room, staring at the floor.

For warm kisses on skin,
you’ve got a drawer full of IOU’S

And it’s high time you called those things in

He was almost home...

He never thought about having a ‘home’.

Until she made it that way...

When anyone else would’ve
been long gone

Packed it up and headed
back home

And not a soul would
have blamed you

After what I put you through

Yea, anyone else would’ve gone insane

Called the game on account of rain...

Anyone else, anyone else…

Anyone but you

He pulled into the driveway, the only lights that were on were the ones on the front porch. “Now you’ve done it old boy,” he muttered to himself, as he turned off the car. Grabbing the wine and flowers he’d bought.

You’ve passed up so many
chances to walk right
out the door

He had never been so frightened than during the time she left him. He waited up for her, hoping she would return to him. He looked up when he heard the door open she stood there, tears streaming down her face.

He swore he would never make her cry...

In pain, ever again.

Here it was, their anniversary, and he as late.

“Hello Rupert,” he heard her say.

“Ah... yes, hello Willow. Um... these... these are for you,” he said, giving her the flowers.

“They’re nice, thank you,” she said taking them and placing them in a vase.

“I’m... I’m sorry.”

“I know. Buffy called me, she told me what happened.”

“She did?”

“Yes Rupert, Buffy let me know why you were late. She thought I knew.”

“I... I see,” he answered.

“When were you going to tell me?”

“Actually... I... I was planning to tell you tonight.”

“Really?”

“Yes, really.”

Willow sat down on the couch, her legs tucked under her. “So, tell me.”

“The papers came today,” he smiled. “She’ll be waiting for us tomorrow.”

“Honestly?” Willow said tears in her eyes. “Yes darling, our daughter will be waiting for us to pick her up,” he said, sitting on the couch, next to Willow.

“We have to celebrate,” she whispered in his ear, sending a shiver down his spine, as she crawled into his lap.

Instead of dodging a
champagne cork

“I totally agree with you,” he said before her mouth kept him busy with other matters.

And watchin’ the wet clothes
fall to the floor

He watched as her silk night gown slid off her shoulders, pooling at her feet.

“Happy anniversary Rupert.”

“Happy anniversary darling.”

When anyone else would’ve
been long gone

Packed it up and headed
back home

And you can hide behind
that Cheshire cat grin
But you know it’s true

She smiled...

The love she felt for him shining in her eyes.

Yea, anyone else would’ve gone insane

Called the game on account of rain...

Anyone else, anyone else...

Anyone but you

Anyone else

Girl...

Anyone

But you

The End
